TMS Therapy

Like a fine musical instrument, our brains can also get out of tune. Physical or emotional trauma, illness, medications and age can all contribute to the resulting discord over time. Some traumatic events may cause a slowing in areas of the brain. This slowing can appear as depression, memory loss, diminished executive functioning and dementia. Other areas may be moving too fast, as often seen in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) or migraine headaches. Imagine a marching band where different sections are playing in different times. Just as that can be uncomfortable to hear, we experience a similar discomfort when our brains are playing different tunes. To help our brains get back in tune, Oak Hill Wellness Clinic has a comprehensive repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy (rTMS) program.

Please call our office at 512-892-0030 for a Free Consultation with our rTMS Coordinator. She will be able to answer your questions, see if you qualify for insurance coverage and set up a medical review with the doctor.

What is rTMS?

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy (rTMS) is a FDA approved treatment for Depression, OCD and migraines. Many studies have shown it being used in other conditions.

rTMS has been in testing since the 1980’s and FDA approved since 2008 for treating depression. As an outpatient treatment, patients attend daily treatments for 8 weeks. Most insurances cover 36 sessions. During the 30-minute rTMS treatments, the patient sits in a reclined chair and an electromagnet paddle rests gently on the head. Pulse sequences, called trains, are delivered to compel the neurons to either speed up or slow down, depending in the patient and their condition(s).
